Mike Humble / The Workington Transport Heritage Trust:
Once again, the preservation rally scene is hotting up. The Workington Transport Heritage Trust (WTHT) proudly announce ‘LN52’ – their third event following on from what was originally conceived to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Leyland National back in 2022. This year, the theme of the gathering is to pay respect to non British Leyland bus and coach products that were on sale to rival the might of what was once the world’s biggest producer of buses and coaches.
Over the bank holiday weekend of the 4th and 5th of May, the picturesque Whitehaven harbour in Cumbria will be packed full of heritage buses and coaches from not only Leyland, but also once revered British marques such as AEC, Ailsa, Bedford, Bristol, Daimler, Dennis and MCW to name but some. This free for all event will feature working vehicles as well as static exhibits. Other highlights include:
- Free town tours
- NEW seaside tour
- Free scenic and brewery tours
- Continental Market
- Exhibitor Stalls
- Photocall at the former Leyland bus plant in Lillyhall
- Plus much much more for all the family
Mike Morton from the WTHT said; ‘Having had successful events in 2022 and 2023, we are proudly back again for 2024 in the pretty surroundings of Whitehaven harbour’. He continued; ‘There will still be a good number of Leyland Nationals, but this time we are expecting attendance from a much wider variety of makes including a good number of double deck vehicles’
The trust is still gladly accepting vehicles to display, of which a booking form is available on the trusts website. Alternatively, you can contact Mike Morton on 07812 210880 or via mike.morton22@icloud.com
