The Workington Transport Heritage Trust (WTHT) invites you to this year’s heritage and preserved bus extravaganza ‘LEYLAND NATIONAL 53’ which is taking place in and around Whitehaven – Cumbria over the May bank holiday weekend: 3rd & 4th of May.

This latest and the fourth gathering is promising to be even larger than the previous events with even more family orientated attractions, plus additional free bus services using a large collection of vintage, retro and preserved buses and coaches that doesn’t just include Leyland, but all kinds of makes and models.

THE HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

  • Heritage buses on static display and operating regular free trips and services
  • Free park & ride from Lakes College Lillyhall (post code CA14 4JN)
  • Town Service using half cab buses where possible
  • Trips to the local seaside town of St Bees using open top buses where possible
  • Countryside, brewery and Leyland bus factory tours
  • New for 2025 Express feeder service between Whitehaven and Cockermouth
  • A huge photo line up at the former Leyland Bus plant at Lillyhall (Sunday pm only)

NOT ONLY THAT BUT…

There will be exhibitions at the Beacon Museum, a street food village, vintage cars, trade stands and a local craft market on the harbourside.

All bus trips are free and up to two children get free admission into the Beacon museum.

The theme for 2025 is “The National in Leyland National” where we look back 50 years to the earliest days of the now defunct National Bus Company.

There is still time to enter a vehicle into the programme, and you can do that by contacting WTHT organiser Mike Morton on 07812 210880 or via email: mike.morton22@icloud.com

So whether you are bonkers over Bristol, dotty about Daimler or have love for a Leyland – get yourself to Whitehaven. Its gonna be big!

See you there?
